Celebrating Karwa Chauth in DLF-2

Karwa Chauth, a cherished festival predominantly celebrated in North India, is a day when married women observe a daylong fast for the well-being and longevity of their husbands. The roots of this vibrant festival trace back centuries, symbolising patience, devotion, and the strength of marital bonds. On this auspicious occasion, women wake up early around 4am to prepare and then eat Sargi which is lovingly given to them by their mother-in-laws.

After this begins the day long fast kept without water and food.

In the DLF-2 community, Karwa Chauth was celebrated with great enthusiasm and grandeur. The local Gauri Shankar Mandir became a vibrant hub where residents gathered to perform traditional rites. Pandit Ji, narrated the holy Karwa Chauth Katha and explained its significance. The fasting ladies sat in a circle, exchanging beautifully decorated thalis filled with sweets and puja items as part of the religious ritual. The air was filled with the sound of devotional hymns and laughter as women embraced this sacred gathering, reinforcing their spiritual connection.

After the pooja ritual, the women showcased their radiant, traditional attire, beautifully adorned in colourful sarees, suits, beautiful mehendi designs, bangles, bindi and intricate jewellery, capturing the essence of the festival in every photograph. Whether in solo poses or delightful group shots, the joy of the occasion was palpable.

The festive spirit extended beyond the temple, spilling into private homes and community parks alike. Host of ladies gathering in P Block Park and celebrated with prayers followed by a series of pics and insta reels.

Residents decorated their abodes with vibrant flowers, twinkling lights, and intricate rangoli designs. After 8 pm, WhatsApp groups lit up as they shared images and messaged each other, eagerly asking, “Is the moon visible yet?” The highlight was in the evening as the moon rose, and with devotion, the ladies offered prayers to the moon. Finally breaking their fast with a sip of water and a morsel of food from their husband’s hands. These are the moments that are cherished for a lifetime.
