Installation of Aerobins: Revolutionizing Waste Management

The recent installation of “Aerobins” in A-Block, NFC marks a significant step toward enhancing waste management and promoting environmental sustainability. ‘Aerobins’ are specialized compos-ting bins that utilize natural aerobic processes to break down organic materials, such as food scraps and yard waste. Unlike traditional waste bins, Aerobins create an optimal environment for microorganisms to thrive, facilitating faster decomposition. This process not only reduces the volume of waste sent to landfills but also produces nutrient-rich compost that can be used for gardening and landscaping.

The problem of disposal of wet waste in Delhi is as big as the 3 big mountains it has created along its borders. MCD with the help of RWA’s has resolved to compost and treat the kitchen wastes in the respective colonies so that minimal amount reaches the landfills.  NFC RWA (Ashoka Park) represented in this initiative by Ms. Kanika Pandit and Mr. Asif Kamal  take immense pride in reminding all residents  that the Blocks B and C of NFC have already been declared as “Zero Waste” zone. Block-A block which was lagging due to finding right composting site moved a step forward in that direction this September with the Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA) a CSR wing of Motherson Sumi Ltd. coming forward to not only donate 6 aerobins but also pledged technical manpower support for initial months. These have been installed in A block park. The inauguration was by our esteemed Councillor, Mrs. Neetu Manish Chowdhry in the presences Deputy Commissioner Mr Kumar Abhishek , the Asst. Commissioner Mr Shambu Nath Pal, Mr Manish Chowdhry, and the team from NFC RWA (Ashoka Park). The facility can currently process up to 60 Kgs of waste per day which is about 22 tons less waste to landfills per year.

Aerobins have many benefits, viz., Environmental Impact, Community Engagement, Educational Opportunities, Enhanced Waste Management. The Installation involved careful planning and collaboration between local authorities, environmental organizations and NFC RWA (Ashoka Park) along with residents. Aerobins were strategically placed in the park to ensure that they are easily accessible to everyone. The response from the community has been positive. Residents have expressed enthusiasm for the new system, with many eager to learn more about composting. Installation of Aerobins represents a significant advancement in our approach to waste management. By embracing this innovative solution, we are taking a proactive step toward sustainability, community engagement, and environmental responsibility. Together, we can make a positive impact on our community and the planet !!
