The Joie De Vivre Of Kids

Rain rain go away come again another day, little Johnnie wants to play. Forget about rain, the little Johnnies of our society will probably not even let an atomic bomb deter them from playing. The way they do not wait for circumstances to be perfect, but manage to carve out perfect moments from the seemingly imperfect circumstances that life throws at them is commendable.

One fine evening recently, these feisty kids were busy playing when it started to rain unexpectedly. The kids, instead of going back home, gathered inside the society’s temple and made it their playground. Therein they unleashed their spontaneous wild side- running around aimlessly, doing multiple circumambulations and ringing bells just for fun. They paid no heed to multiple calls by their parents to return home. One of the kids, who was handed an umbrella by a concerned parent, turned it upside down and started collecting rainwater in it. Who would’ve thought of such an ingenious use of the umbrella- one totally contrary to the purpose it was actually designed for! However, the kids weren’t all about play that day. Once they were done having fun, their responsible side took over. They took the mop and cleaned the logged water out of the entire temple premises. The priest hadn’t arrived yet, but the kids likely saved him a ton of cleaning work. The kids did it all out of their own free will when no one was watching. The devi devtas would have been really pleased with their selfless service.

The adults who are predisposed to think that these kids visit temple just for the mishri that they get as prasad couldn’t be more wrong. Maybe they need to learn from these uncorrupt kids how to do good deeds without trumpeting about it to the entire world.
