The recent paintings on the wall of Balvantray Mehta Vidya Bhawan Anguridevi Shersingh Memorial Academy, Greater Kailash – II, reflect the collective observations, thoughts, impressions, and imagination of a community united by harmony and peace. This transformative project, completed on 28th September, was a collaboration between NGO Hara Jeevan, Art of Living, and Tata Communications.
The wall between gate no 1 and 3, which spans approx. 200 feet, became a canvas for values, ideas, and artistic expressions, symbolizing not only aesthetic beauty but the school’s inclusive ethos. Known for its commitment to differently-abled children and students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the school was selected because it stands as a beacon of education for all, regardless of status, ability, or background.
When Tata Communications expressed interest in supporting a public wall painting through Hara Jeevan’s Manisha Saini, the school was chosen after thoughtful deliberations with Mrs Meena Kapoor, an active social welfare personality, along with the school’s principal, Vandana Ji. A site visit on 17th September revealed the need for repairs as the wall was in a dismal state with patches of loose plaster, dampness and black patches giving a shabby & lifeless look. On the other hand, this vast area provided the canvas to showcase impactful messages covering studies, physical activities, moral values and much more.
Despite heavy rains on 18th and 19th September, repairs were promptly completed, preparing the wall to receive artwork that would inspire and educate.
It transformed from being a dismal looking wall into a fresco of beautiful messages and vibrant imagery attracting children—depicting yoga, the solar system, playing children, love for books, vegetables, dancing peacocks, yoga, dance and music, and many more—capturing a blend of imagination and reality. It’s not just about beautification but creating a visual narrative that speaks of the school’s mission and values.
Over 100 volunteers from Hara Jeevan, Art of Living, and Tata Communications, along with professional artists and some children, came together in this harmonious effort. The project, executed at no cost to the school, leaves a lasting impression, reflecting how peace and unity can manifest in beautiful ways when intentions align.
