Ganpati Bappa Morya!

Ganesh Chaturthi is a 10-day festival marking the birth of the elephant-headed deity Ganesha, the God of prosperity and wisdom. It begins on the fourth day (chaturthi) of the month of Bhadrapada (August-September). People celebrate this festival with immense joy and enthusiasm.

On this occasion our society, Windsor Court, organized a workshop where we learned to make Ganesh Ji’s idol using clay. My experience of the workshop was wonderful as I learned to work with clay and the process of making detailed statues. The workshop was led by Stuti Arora and the clay was provided by Ranu Kawatra of Windsor Court.

We started by making a simple ball for Ganesh Ji’s stomach and then gradually moved on to make the chest and the trunk. Many times, when the clay hardened and dried up, we used water to soften it. We were explained all the steps in great detail. Everyone teaching us was very kind, patient, and extremely helpful. Even when someone joined a little late, they helped them catch up with the other participants. We also savoured a variety of snacks like soya katori, chips, and yummy cookies. Overall, the workshop was fantastic and exciting as we made our very own Bappa to carry back to bless and enlighten our homes. This experience was truly wonderful and memorable. This memory would surely be latched in my heart forever. I am now looking forward to many more such activities hosted by our society.
