Excerpts of President’s Address at the AGM

Good morning, ladies and Gentlemen

I must thank you all for gathering here and giving me an opportunity for the first time to address the august gathering and present the Annual Report for the year 2023-24 of the Society and the Vasant Vihar Club. Your faith and support have enabled me to personally discharge my responsibility, hope fully to your satisfaction. I understand and believe that the prime responsibility of the Managing Committee is to maintain a very high standard of fiscal proprietary and transparency. During the period under review i.e. F.Y. 2023-24, we made sure that there is no deviation from laid down guidelines and proper procedures are followed. At each stage proper sanctions and approvals have been taken from the competent authority based on the financial powers laid down.

In the financial year under review (2023-24), the financial position of the Society is on a very strong and healthy footing. This is for the first time in the last 10 years or more that your Society and Club have made a surplus in the same financial year. The Balance Sheet indicates a surplus of Rs. 33.33 Lakhs in the Club and Rs. 12.50 Lakhs in the Society (including Rs.10 Lakhs received as donation from Shanti Niketan Recreation Centre). The net surplus is therefore Rs. 45.83 Lakhs for the year.

During the year 2023-24, the Society upgraded the Open Area in the Kalyan Kendra and converted it for use as a party area. The response from members has been very encouraging.

Our Literary Festival has become the USP of NCR. There is hardly any club in NCR which can claim to host a LitFest of the magnitude, status and class as we have been housing. Hence for the current year we are planning for the same during February 2025.

Games and sports have always been high on our agenda. Regular Club tournaments have been held in badminton, pickle ball, squash, tennis and table tennis. A Rackeltlon event was organized where 90 members participated in 5 racket games.

Pickle Ball has recently been introduced and we have a champion in the senior section and a young player selected for the National Pickle Ball Team. We will continue our endeavor to make sports more popular and participative.

Throughout the year, we have held a number of cultural and entertainment programs both in Kalyan Kendra and the Club, They have all been of high standard and appreciated by our members. During the year we spent a sum of Rs. 28.24 Lakhs on entertainment. Of this Rs. 18 Lakhs came as sponsorship. Excess expenditure of approx. Rs.1.03 Lakhs on account of New Year Eve program and Members Lunch, were both subsidized. Members over 80 years of age are always our honoured guests, and will continue to grace the occasion with their presence.

Finally, to conclude, I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to all of you i.e. the members of the Society present here today and all our Club members, many of whom are not present here today. The trust and faith all of you have reposed in us has in fact humbled me.

My sincere thanks are also due to all our MC members and all our CC members for their unflinching support, dedication and hard work.

Without all of you, we could not have achieved what we have during our tenure.

I would request all of you to please join me in thanking our staff, both of the Society and the Club for their hard work and dedication. At no stage have they ever been found wanting. You are all witness for their positive responses, hard work and dedication.

Thank you for your patience hearing.
