Ganpati Bappa Morya!

As a kid new to Mumbai, I went out to see Ganesh Visarjan. I could never forget the music, colours, dances, and ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya!’ chants. I remember tasting Modak for the first time, the sweet flavour still remains my favourite to this date.

To be back in this society only reminds me of the differences and the beauty of how traditions are so significant to one’s life.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival full of joy, devotion and tradition. It marks the birth of Shri Ganesh, the deity of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings. On the final day, it is believed that He returns to Mount Kailash to join His parents, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Shri Ganesh is regarded as the Remover of Obstacles; it is claimed that when He is carried out for immersion, He removes and destroys the house’s impediments.

To be in this society, gives us all a new chance to work on ourselves. Whether it is school, work, our hobbies or our health – this opportunity for new beginnings is one to not be wasted. To be able to reflect on what has happened these past months, and to be aware that the yearend awaits us, it is important we recognise our potential and grow.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a religious celebration and a cultural spectacle that fosters devotion, artistic expression, and unity. It serves as evidence of enduring customs and a sense of community.
