As customary for the last several years QERWA organised Independence Day celebrations this year too with full honour and enthusiasm at the front lawn of DLF-1 Community Centre.
The function commenced with the Ganesh Vandana dance recital by the girls of NGO ‘Sarvam Shakti Foundation’. Then the chief guest Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Sukhdeep Sangwan unfurled the national flag and gave an inspiring speech advising everyone to develop a national character and pride to take the nation forward. He recounted with sadness that everyone talks of our debacle of the 1962 China war but hardly a few know of our resounding victory against China in the 1967 battle at Nathula. Go back and celebrate every Indian who is doing his duty towards nation-building making India proud, he said.
Baljeet Rathee, President QERWA also addressed the gathering followed by a cultural show with songs, dance and Yoga performances by lovely children from Apna School, NGO ‘Sarvam Shakti Foundation’ and Spreading Smiles. The highlight was a superb rendition of a patriotic song by a young girl Keshvi Setia. Mrs. Rama Rani Rathi, Former Councillor, also graced the occasion and she gave away gifts to the children.
The programme was well attended by many residents depicting true nationalism and concluded with the ‘Vote of Thanks’ by BM Mehta, Vice President QERWA, DLF-4.
Tea with refreshments was served at the end.
