Vasant Vihar residents held a Candlelight March Thursday, August 22, 2024, in solidarity with RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape victim’s grieving family and the nation. The residents marched peacefully carrying candles in their hands from Kalyan Kendra to Vasant Vihar Club. At the Club, they observed two minutes of silence holding candles in their hands. The atmosphere was somber and melancholic.
“We want justice” resonated as the doctors present in the gathering called for safety for the women, stricter safety laws for women in the country, and freedom to wear clothes as they like. “It is not a matter of one woman. one college, one state, and one doctor; It is a matter of Nation. We pray for the safety of each woman in India. We are demanding, justice be served, and precedent be set,” said Dr. Glossy Sabharwal and Dr. Shivani Sabharwal. “And we are speaking for all doctors of Vasant Vihar,” they added.
The Candlelight March was organized jointly by VVWA and the Society.
