D Block residents held a meeting at Kalyan Kendra on 11 Aug to discuss the deteriorating living conditions in D Block and to find a way forward. Around 30 residents were in attendance.
Following issues were identified as immediate cause of concern • Waste management • Illegal parking of vehicles • Security • Street lighting • Encroachments • School traffic
– Sewage overflow and dirty back lanes
The residents present were of the opinion that D Block Residents Welfare Association (DBRWA) and Vasant Vihar Welfare Association (VVWA) had been unresponsive in tackling the issues. They do not know whom to approach in case of emergency. If these elected bodies are not willing to resolve the D Block problems, then the residents of D Block will have no other option but to form another block organization and move on.
After detailed deliberations, the following decisions were arrived at:
The DBRWA be requested to call an open house to deliberate upon the DBRWA membership issue. If the D Block RWA does not respond favorably within 3 months, a new community body should be registered so that the new RWA becomes a truly representative body of all the D Block residents.
Brigadier Sanjeev Mehra, who attended the meeting as a resident, said that since he had been approached to be President by those who are involved with the current D Block RWA, he would be happy to discuss with them the question of membership of all residents in the RWA as it was earlier. Thereafter regular elections could be held to select the new management. The attendees agreed to wait for three months to give Brig Mehra a chance to discuss and revert.
