A plantation drive was organized by our Councilor Anita Basoya, at a park, maintained by Moets restaurant, on July 14. MLA Madan Lal and Sandeep Basoya encouraged all of us and planted some saplings too. Residents from all over the colony came along with their children and joined in great number. Despite the hot humid weather, the enthusiasm was evident on children’s faces as they ran from one spot to other to plant more and more saplings. Hands dirty, faces flushed but the children were all smiles with the idea of helping Mother Nature in some way. Little fingers dug, planted the sapling, filled the soil back and watered them, and it was an accomplishment for them.
We are very thankful to Anita Basoya, Sandeep Basoya, Madan Lal and Anuj Bakshi for organizing this drive and giving children the chance to feel good in an attempt to preserve their future.

Planting trees is important because trees not only give us oxygen to breathe by cleaning the air but also provide a variety of our daily requirements or essentials. Trees provide a habitat for birds and insects and help in lowering the temperature and keeping any place cool. Trees beautify the area or surroundings.
At the moment, there are three trillion trees in the world. However, by 2050, there will only be around 2.5 trillion trees left. That means in only 25 years, we would already have cut down 500 billion trees. Here is where tree plantation drives are important. There’s an old saying, “If you cut down one tree, plant 10 more.”
Now you must be thinking three trillion trees are a lot. Shouldn’t it be enough to remove all the carbon dioxide from the air? The problem is that most of the trees are saplings and can barely remove any carbon dioxide. But saplings can and will grow, and if we plant trees now, they will grow and start making the air fresh and clean again. So let’s all contribute and plant a sapling. One day, it will become a beautiful and healthy tree.
