Recently, the incidents of thefts in backlanes of various blocks have been reported. Backlanes in some blocks are closed by iron gates and locked while in some others they are open with free access. In a recent incident, the two outdoor units of an air conditioner were stolen during the day from the backlane of one of the blocks in Greater Kailash-1. While hanging AC units outside the building in public area is illegal as per MCD rules, the builders still resort to such practices exposing the owner to the risk of theft. The owners of such properties need to relocate such equipment and protect them with grills.
