After the new managing committee took over the reigns again in the club there were immediately two festivals coming up. Navratri followed by Dussehra.
Navratris have great significance for Hindus not only in the Northern or western belt but probably in entire India and now due to the social media the festivals of each region are enjoyed and celebrated by all. This is the biggest blessing of technology which has in-fact integrated the entire country as people from all religions have started celebrating all festivals and the boundaries of religion/communities have disappeared. Festivals serve as a great tool to join the communities together and create a loving harmonious society.
Safdarjung Club served all vegetarian food during Navratras and there were special Navratri food available in the dining room. It was a welcome step. A special dandiya night was organised by the MC at the club lawns on the 4th oct. The lawns looked resplendent with colours, ladies and gentlemen dressed in traditional Gujrati attire made the evening very colourful. The sound of drum beats made the environment joyous and all were compelled to hit the dance floor with their dandiya sticks. Ladies grooved happily to the tune of peppy Gujrati numbers. It was a fun filled evening enjoyed by all. There were stalls of snacks and food too.
Dussehra has always been a big attraction in the club as it is very convenient for residents to come and enjoy the Ravna Burning and witness it from close in a safe enclosed club environment . There were special attractions for young children who were gifted with Ramlila toys containing Teer kaman, sword and Bhala. The patio area around the swimming pool was bursting with people and the lawns were also full to capacity as this was the first big function post Covid. People were sick of sitting indoors and given the first opportunity to celebrate they all came out in large numbers.
There was excitement all around as young children wanted to see Ravna from close . Club had arranged for an Eco friendly Ravna this time and the effigy was burnt at sun set with the loud chanting of Jai Shri Ram.
The crowd cheered the burning of Ravna as it depicts the victory of good over evil. There were chaat stalls, veg and non veg food and a bar.
It was a great evening enjoyed by all. May community harmony prevail in our society, may there be more tolerance towards each other and respect for every religion in the society and most importantly respect for women. A society that respects women is always a happy, peaceful and enlightened society.
