It is commonly said, ‘One family, one tree’ as the requirement of oxygen of a family of four cannot be fulfilled otherwise. Add to it the carbon footprints of fancy cars and electrical appliances containing green house gases, even a tree would fall short. Our mothers and mother nature give sustenance and life to each one of us on this earth and to give out gratitude this year’s environment day launched the campaign of “Ek ped Maa ke naam” to plant a tree for your mother. Capturing the national sentiment and considering the importance of trees, a Green initiative program was started by the residents of Sector-75 Noida. Residents of Apex Athena with Sh Purushottam ji, a resident of F-2201 leading the initiative planted 100 tree saplings within the society and its surrounding areas. People of all age groups participated as it is important for the elder generation to teach the young ones the importance of sustainability in an exponentially expanding material lifestyle and what better way than practicing what you preach. Ten different varieties of evergreen trees were planted as it is not only important just to plant any tree but also be conscious of what to plant. Climatic and geographical survival is only ensured by keystone and native species while invasive species can cause more ecological harm than benefit. The ancient knowledge of Panchvati, Harishankari and Triveni come to our rescue here. After plantation, the residents took pledge to adopt the planted tree sapling for its survival and care. A tree also grows with the love and affection it receives and caring for the plants and nature is highly therapeutic and rejuvenating for humans as well. Such community efforts are a good jumpstart for local area solutions and hopefully next the residents of Sector -75 would soon get a green belt between the Dasnac and Apex Societies and the desecrated Bada Gol Chakkar in front of Club 75.
