Tall trees in the midst of resplendent nature, beside a road offering magnanimously their expanse of shade on a hot summer day are inspiring and fill us with gratitude. However in the heart of our concrete jungles their cheek and jowl presence with residential homes can be alarming. The danger of their falling in a storm or other destructive acts of nature, is not unheard of instead it’s an occurence we are only too aware of.
Unfortunately the common citizen of our country does not seem to have recourse to protection of life and limb (and property) to get permission to have their height lobbed off which would drastically reduce any imminent danger of their falling. On the other hand reports are rampant of the builder lobby getting permission to chop off the entire tree and even destroy its roots to prevent any future growth. How many times have we come together in modern day chipko-style movements to protect trees but eventually they do get chopped.
By lobbing off just the height we would still enjoy the generous benefits provided by trees and yet be safe from nature-induced calamities.
