The home voting facility for the elderly voters and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in all the seven parliamentary constituencies of Delhi for the Lok Sabha polls kicked off from Thursday,16 May,24 continued till 24 May,24.
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi stated that it was for the first time that such a facility has been made available in the Lok Sabha elections.
The home voting facility was available to voters above 85 years of age and PwDs, offering them the option to cast their votes from their homes.
Our veteran colony resident, Mahendra Prasad Agarwala, 96 years old and resident of Flat No. 170, Sector A, Pocket C, was among those who used the facility. Voting from home took place with the involvement of a full contingent of polling staff and security personnel with the secrecy of voting diligently maintained.
Agarwala, is the resident of the colony since the last 30 years and has been voting since the first General elections held in 1951-52.
Agarwala was born on 10 October, 1928 in Allahabad. He qualified for a degree in Electronics Engineering from Thompson College, Roorkee. He was selected for the Civil Services and joined the Ministry of Communications. He worked closely with the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and was one of the persons responsible for expanding telecommunications and bringing mobile phones in India. He retired as the member of the Central Telecom Board.
Agarwala is an avid bridge player. He has taken part in many International Tournaments and his world ranking is 154. According to Agarwala, successful ageing is the process of growing older while maintaining physical health, cognitive abilities and strong social relationships. He has always maintained an optimistic response to stressors inherent in age-related decline.
