What is MCD policy on creation and maintenance of garbage dhalaos is difficult to comprehend. Garbage dhalaos are created overnight without considering how they will affect the society at large. Having created, they are not managed properly to avoid inconvenience to the residents of the area.
One such dhalao was created couple of years back by SDMC opposite M block of Greater Kailash -1. The Dhalao caters to garbage collected from M and W blocks. Incidentally a bigger dhalao already existed opposite M block market, which also caters to both M and W blocks. First question that comes to mind is where was the need to create another dhalao when one already existed for these blocks.
This dhalao at the crossing of three roads is a source of nuisance, eyesore, unhealthy pungent odour, and traffic obstructor. The crossing is entry to three schools of the area where hundreds of children cross the dhalao every day. The dhalao overflows with wet garbage and the road is often flooded with dirty water making walking on the road difficult. The dry garbage segregation is done at the spot throughout the day and bundles stacked for sale later, blocking road and footpath making walking difficult for school going children and residents.
This garbage dhalao is also located next to Arya Samaj mandir and Vedic centre which are visited by people from all over the city for prayer meetings and functions, creating a poor impression about civic services in the area.
Several appeals by RWA and Arya Samaj management to SDMC authorities and politicians have not helped. It is understood that SDMC has taken a decision to convert all garbage dhalaos into Milk booths/ Ice cream parlors. When will M block dhalao see this change?
