We held a successful camp at Club3 on 1 June. We asked residents to bring the things they did not want anymore but which were in good condition. They started decluttering their homes and took out stuff that was just sitting in storage.
We have small houses and even smaller storage spaces. So, what is the point of holding onto excess stuff?
We categorized all these objects and arranged them neatly across the lounge room. We then opened the first minimalism camp to fellow residents to come and pick whatever they had use for.
One person’s junk is another person’s treasure!
Apart from the physical exchange of objects, the energies created were phenomenal. Everyone loved coming together and participating in a common purpose. It was cathartic and therapeutic for many of us.
People loved the cake, chai and conversations.
Children too had a good time and learnt the importance of sharing and valuing things.
The camp succeeded in many ways – helping us declutter, coming together as a community, helping the planet by emphasizing reduced buying, and creating bonds. It was amazing to see residents with the recharged spirit!
This was the first minimalism camp organized. We hope to continue holding such camps with greater awareness and make this concept more successful.
