This year, in 2024, Vat Savitri Vrat, a significant Hindu festival, was held on June 6, Thursday. This festival is celebrated by married women for the well-being of their husbands. A large number of women gathered at the temple premises early in the morning for worship and performed the rituals. The festival involves fasting, praying to the Banyan Tree, offering water, sweets, and garlands, applying haldi and kumkum tilak, offering akshat, and tying a white thread around the tree while circumambulating the holy tree seven times. Women of all age groups, including newly married women, wore traditional dresses such as sarees and suits and adorned themselves with jewelry for the occasion. Women observed strict fasting and recited the story of Savitri and Satyavaan. In front of the Banyan tree, they lit an earthen lamp with desi ghee, burned incense sticks, and offered sweets. Afterward, they prayed to Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma for the well-being of their husbands. Following the puja, the women gathered inside the temple to listen to the katha of Savitri and Satyavan, which was recited by the Pandit. Finally, all the women received blessings from their elders for a happy married life.
