Encroachments on Public Land Are Increasing in Def Col!

Def Col Roads Bhi Meri Hai!!!

Def Col residents are now known to be greediest in Delhi NCR… Kudos to them for achieving this dubious record by “Illegally Grabbing Maximum Land” in front, at the back and on the sides of their purchased residential plot!

Modus Operandi of these encroachments:

1) They start by constructing their new house all the way upto the road by constructing a ramp on the rainwater naali which has been actually there for decades to keep us safe from rain water during monsoons. The next they build basements till the roads at times even beyond the road! The basements are now “new dwelling units” for the tenants who pay rent for it from 1.5 to 3 lacs per month for their commercial activities! The new basements are now getting registered separately for 3-6 crores! WOW what a price!!

2) The residents are now encroaching on public land by not only creating illegal ramps at the entrance, they keep big pots, build guard rooms, car park area with chains, gardens, generators in the back lanes. There is no one to question them and the encroachment is now resulting in minimizing public space on pavements for pedestrians. The big cars are parked on the roads while the stilt parking is used as servants room, offices etc. The sides of the plots are also grabbed by creating car parking with boundaries. The front portion of the houses across the roads are poached by installing chains, keeping plants or parking old cars! The pavements have almost disappeared from the colony due to these land grabbing strategies of the residents.

3) There is no specific authority except MCD which is under the MCD councilor but they never take action due to continuous elections (MCD/MLA/MP) the fear of losing vote

How To Resolve the Illegal Land Grabbing/Encroachments!!

It’s simple as done in other residential colonies by enforcing law and order for the residents.

• The RWA’s needs to send a simple circular to the residents to remove the illegal encroachments within 30 days failing which the details will be shared with the MCD councillor, Mayor and other authorities in the MCD.

• The RWA must prepare a list and share in the RWA’s whatsapp group to discourage other residents to refrain from these illegal activities. The list must be given to the MCD councillor and team for necessary action including challan followed by using bulldozers to clear the public land.

• Anyone creating hurdles must be removed from the RWA and club membership so that some discipline prevails in the colony in the interest of the pedestrians who would like to walk on the pavements rather than risking their lives on the roads.

Lastly, we at Samvada humbly request all the residents to please remove your encroachments immediately and provide the public land for your fellow residents
