As Def col is a porous colony (Open from all sides during day and night) the issues of security, traffic, illegal vendors, cleanliness and parking fail year after year. During the last few years Authorities and RWA’s tried to shunt the illegal vendors away but the residents are still facing them every day.
Who are these illegal and unauthorized vendors?
• Kabadiwala, subjiwala, chaat rehri, ice cream carts
• Chaiwala, dhabas etc
• Chickwala, plants vendors,
• Household repairs, plumbers, carpenters, electricians etc
They are not authorized and generally keep roaming around freely in the colony as there are no day guards. These people keep troubling the residents with loud noise in the service lanes and front lanes; near parks, Gumbad roundabout, near market. They also keep doing survey of the colony and strike thefts as and when a house is locked for few days.
The major concern raised by the residents in the most active social helpline group (issues and actions) that the areas near the Def col metro station (D block entrance from Lajpat nagar flyover) where few dhabas, kulcha wala, chair wala are now seen sitting permanently, they are not only grabbing the walking space but also spread filth and garbage all over the place. We tried many times with the support of SHO but they keep coming back with more numbers at the same place. The MCD is helpless, the politicians are always busy in elections and ribbon cutting but who will take care of this menace.
We at Samvada request all over readers and fellow residents please do not use these vendors for any services. If you need product or services, you may use online channels to stop these vendors in the colony. They are increasing due to increase in the demand and if we all stop using them then they will move to other colonies.
