My New Car Stolen In The Dead Of Night

by Pooja Sinha (9810092757)

On the eve of my birthday, the 15th of September, we were all pretty excited to welcome the day of my birth, which was on the subsequent day. To celebrate this birthday of mine my husband Satya had bought me a Creta Hyundai black in colour, just two months back. We had been contemplating on this buy for the past two years. It was 11:30 at night on the 15th of September when I went with my maid to check if the car was locked. I had also bought a tyre jammer for extra safety as I had heard of many cars being stolen in this particular lane, adjacent to the skating park of GK11.
Come 16th September and wishes for my birthday began pouring in. All of a sudden, my house help ran towards me and blurted out, “Didi, the black car is not to be seen.” The driver who had arrived at around 9 am conveyed the same. I couldn’t believe my ears and rushed out to check the car. In addition, I walked past the entire lane to check if the car had been parked at some other spot but I was pretty sure that I had parked the vehicle outside the skating park, about two car spaces away from the banyan tree next to my house.
After scouting for the Creta, I immediately called up the police control room 100, notifying them that my car had been stolen. Simultaneously I informed my husband and we rushed out to speak to our neighbours. Instantly they checked their CCTV and we had clear evidence. Incidentally somebody had driven to the spot at 3:44 am in a white car and rode off with my black Creta at around 3.46 am with utmost confidence as if it belonged to them.
Thereafter, I sat with the police for the first half of 16th September, 2022. After two online attempts we finally managed to file an FIR. We had given all the information which would help us find my car but it was all in vain. This was absolutely a shocking incident in my life. Never did I imagine that staying in GK2, such a posh and secure colony, my car would be stolen so easily. There is simply no vigilance around the skating park lane, the barricades have been removed, you have got guards which can simply be blown off, they are so incapable of looking after the parked cars.
When I talked to the insurance company, they clarified that Creta is the no. 1 car which is being stolen nowadays. The thieves have a particular gadget with sensors which they use to scan and easily open the car. Next on the radar are Crysta, Innova and Fortuner which are being stolen, left right and centre. I wonder if I am staying at GK2 or some other lesser known crime prone area. There is no difference whatsoever. No assurance from anybody who is deputed in a responsible position in GK2, to even reflect their concern towards this theft, has been given to me till date. No action has been taken by people holding positions in GK2. Everybody is behaving as if nothing has happened, shocking and surprising. Today I am a scared citizen of GK2, not sure about my cars, not sure about security. First time living in South Delhi this has happened to me. Can anybody raise a voice? Can anybody take action or will this happen when somebody’s personal car gets stolen.
