Tragedy Strikes
In what can be described as nothing short of a tragedy, two sanitation workers died on 4th May 2024 at the residence of Sumit Jaiswal (A-95) after inhaling toxic gases while working in the sew age shaft.
The workers, who have been identified as Nooni Mandal, 36 and Tapan Mandal, 40, originally hailed from Malda district in West Bengal but lived in the jhuggi-jhopdi colony at Sector 9 Noida. It has been learnt that the workers, who were related to each other, had been working in Jaiswal’s house during the day and had left in the evening. However, when Mr Jaiswal found that the work was not completed, he called them up and asked them to return to complete the work. So, the two workers returned around 7 pm to resume work. However, when they entered the shaft, they became unconscious due to the presence of noxious gases. When many hours passed and the two did not emerge, Mr Jaiswal contacted RWCS Security and other authorities and efforts were made to bring the workers out. It has been learnt that the unconscious workers were rushed to Kailash Hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
As per news reports, besides Noida Police, some other agencies associated with workers, too have stepped in to investigate the case.
The two workers were related to each other as jija saala and left behind elderly parents, wife and kids. They were casual workers who used to do whatever work was offered to them. One of them used to clean the house for Diwali and other festivals for Dr Suman Bhatia (who used to reside in C-block earlier but now resides in Sector 20 NOIDA). According to the grapevine, the elderly Dr Bhatia used to treat them well and was deeply shocked to hear of their deaths.
As per RWCS President, Govind Sharma, no case has been registered against the Jaiswals who have apparently offered Rs 10 lakh to each family.
Mr Sharma has said that residents who want to get their sewers or septic tanks cleaned should call Mahavir of Noida Authority at 9911018952. He should be contacted for any sewage-related issues.
RWCS Security in charge, Anil Aeron has said that no construction or tank cleaning work will be permitted after dark. Even construction materials will not be permitted to enter the sector at night.
(For all security-related matters, please call Mr Aeron at +91 98100 19372).
Residents are requested to abide by the rules and cooperate with RWCS, which is there for the welfare of the residents.
