Conscious Effort to Generate Along With Preserve Is the Need of the Hour

As soon as the month of August approaches we all start preparing for the upcoming festival season. It brings a different pep and joy in everyone. The streets light up, the markets look colorful, there is music all over. It is a beautiful time of the year.
I myself love the kandeels with lights that I decorate my house with but each year when I put them up there is very mixed feeling that I go through. Am I right in wasting the limited resource (electricity here) that we have? The “ladi” which adorns most of the houses is still ok as the consumption of electricity is much lesser in those.
Yesterday while I drove close to the NOIDA stadium I saw a km or so long “Ladi” with bulbs of Close to 40watts each. It looked beautiful and added to the festivities but the question is, are we ok with it?
My suggestion, as vague as it may sound to some is that, the education board must bring a change in the annual curriculum. Almost every student during the schooling years makes working models, projects, charts as a part of holiday homework or board examination submission.
The students should instead be made to homework on generating and preserving the resources- any resource. For example something on lines of making solar panels and connecting all lights to the same or making projects on water recycle.
Start small from home, to school, to state, to national. This will not just build a sense of responsibility in the future generations but also bring out the best in students.
Festivals should not lose their importance, stopping or restricting everything (no water splashing on Holi, no lights on Diwali) is not the only solution. Conscious effort to generate along with preserve is the need of the hour.
A very happy Festival season to all!
