Recently, one early morning in Sector-92, the residents were woken up by a loud noise of a car crash turning turtle. It was a very unfortunate incident where a senior citizen driving the car lost control and crashed into a stationary vehicle resulting in this massive turning of the car with occupants.
Fortunately he and the other occupant came out unhurt from the impact and everyone around was also saved from any injuries. But this must surely have been a mental trauma for them for days.
This incident jolted us to think what went wrong in this event. If we analyse the situation, we can come out with a number of reasons from what we are experiencing and seeing these days.
Firstly, the person driving may not be in the correct state to drive, his alertness and response time to such an event could also be under the lens. The age does play a major role in deciding the vigilance of reflexes.
Secondly, a major reason could be the manner in which the vehicles are parked outside the homes – another major issue that residents have to face in the colony. The parking space created for every resident in their stilt area is not utilised for cars, but for everything else.
The residents need to be more aware about encroachments in the form of raised platforms, garden areas, plants, etc. which blocks the roadside and narrows down the space.
We need to work on the policy to implement space utilisations by authorities, who can tackle in the right way and residents should follow them. The RWAs can help in the implementation of the policies rolled out by the Authority.
For this, it has to be a collective effort. Each resident on their part should make an effort to do the right things according to the specified rules and regulations. Consideration for others and not going beyond one’s own scope should be the outlook.
We can peacefully coexist in this fast moving times only when we start thinking about the community as a whole.
