Naina – Our Young Entrepreneur At The Holi Mela

After watching and enjoying the fun of several Diwali melas in the past, our daughter Naina, all of six (6) years old declared that she would like to set up a stall all of her own during the Holi Mela. That triggered a discussion on what kind of stall she should put up. Given how much she likes art and craft, she decided to think along those lines. While I was at a loss for ideas about an art and craft stall, Naina was very sure about her choice. During the Covid times, when a large amount of time was being spent at home, Naina developed an interest in Origami. She had followed many videos of the art through YouTube and other apps and made lots of animal shapes for her friends as well. So she decided that she would teach people about Origami. When the Holi mela banner was put up, and Naina was very excited to have her stall. She followed up with me to ensure that I would book a stall for her.

She sat down and made a list of things she could teach. She also suggested that if she priced it less, she would have more people coming to her to learn origami! That set the ball rolling. Next, she made a list of things she required. She also made a piece of each of the items she had listed so that she would fold her piece as she went along.

On the day of the mela, she and her brother were super excited! Her brother was going to assist her at the stall. He was also going to make origami football and cricket jerseys. Her first customer was her best friend, who learnt to make a frog and a swan from her. After this, she had a steady stream of people wanting to learn about various animals from her. She was calm and patient, and she went through all her steps patiently.

She loved her first experience of setting up a stall, and we were so proud to see our mini business woman in the making!
