At the start of the month, the Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association (FONRWA) had a meeting with officers of UPPCL to discuss matters Amongst the issues raised were the increased demand for electricity, the disruption of electricity supply whenever it rains, and the snapping of overhead electricity cables on windy days.
Taking cognizance of these complaints, UPPCL has announced that it will soon begin laying underground cables in three sectors: Sector 23, Sector 34, and Sector 26. It seems that Rajiv Mohan, Chief Engineer, UPPCL, has assured that all work, including increasing the capacity of power lines, will be done by March 31.
This is being seen as a major win and a feather in the cap of the present RWCS, especially President Govind Sharma as the move will ensure not only uninterrupted power supply but also freedom from the web of wires on poles.
At the same time, it seems that the RWAs of the three concerned sectors will be asked to get the consent of their residents for the installation of new LT distribution boxes and be willing to bear the expense of cabling from the new LT distribution box to the premises.
One hopes that the cost of the above will not burn a hole in the pockets of the residents and that whatever digging will be done to lay the underground cables will not mean potholes on roads or damage to residences.
