What better way to celebrate women’s achievements and work toward a gender equal world than a walkathon at the crack of dawn! We did that, on Saturday, 9 March, a day after International Women’s Day!
A bunch of us women participated in the 3km Walk for Women Walkathon hosted by our very own Dr. Manju Tyagi’s (Villa 5) esteemed Yatharth Wellness Super Specialty Hospital in Noida. The event was planned and began before 6am by welcoming eager participants over a red carpet (literally).
Pink T-shirts were handed out to all who had registered; after a quick change, we were invited outdoors for a Zumba warm-up session.
As we waited, the MC invited members of the highly energetic Zumba team! They got the crowd charged with their invigorating moves and some foot-thumping music! You could feel the adrenalin rush all around as we tried to keep up with their beats!
By 7 AM, we were set to commence. And then we did what we do best – Walked and talked! There was much positive energy all around, with lively participation from not just women, but men and kids too!
It was fantastic!
The route was Yatharth Hospital — Janpath Road — U-turn before the CNG station – Yatharth Hospital. 3 km seemed less, so us AoH gals walked on and clocked in a good 5.30 km! There were bottled water stations along the route.
For those who opted to sleep in, I bet you were jolted out of your slumber to some rather loud music blaring out of the tehelka truck that guided the walkers! Participants were treated to snacks post the walk; there was also a lucky draw.
None of us won, but the fun, excitement and satisfaction came from the early morning wake-up, to the amazing walk with like-minded enthusiasts! A fitting way to celebrate!
