The Day Of Women

Nowhere in our Vedas have women been mentioned as the subjugated ones. In our culture, the names of Godly couples like Sita Rama, Radhe Krishna and so on have women’s name preceding the men.

Why is it in our Vedas and culture that women walk a couple of steps behind men: so as to support him in case of a fall. Contrary to modern beliefs, they were never rated inferior to men in our ancient holy books.

In fact, the Manusmriti says,‘angels tread where women are worshipped’.

Women like Maitreyi and Gargi were great saints who contributed immensely to society. Until the rule of Harshvardhan, which ended in the middle of the 6th Century, there was gender equality.

When the foreign invasions began, the attempts to destroy our culture began too. They struck at our roots and the social status of women underwent a change. We must return to acknowledging our Vedas and holy books to give women the place that was duly assigned to them, i.e., a place of dignity &respect.

We will not be obliging them by doing this; we will be rewarding our future generations by this gesture. Then, every day, & not just 8 March, would indeed be a woman’s day.
