Much awaited and an important decision taken by the UP Government, the UP Lift and Escalator Bill 2024, aims at enhancing high-rise resident security. It mandates lift agency’s registration, emergency drills, CCTV installation and insurance cover. A step forward in ease of vertical living!
High rise societies need to be sustainable; and the key factors for sustainability is safe living in a high rise society. The three standard safety measures which need to be implemented are – the structural safety of the condominium, fire safety and safety while using the lifts.
The Act will help in streamlining the lift operations and maintenance, and also help in fixing accountability. All those responsible, the administration and society management, will have to make sure that the guidelines are implemented in line with this new Act and in true spirit. Proper checks and balances in the system will need to be created to assure safety of millions of people commuting daily in the lifts.
Moreover Gautam Budha Nagar and Ghaziabad districts house majority of high rise residential and commercial complexes of Uttar Pradesh. This Act directly impacts the two districts for the safety norms.
