Winter Flowers Add Beauty As Well As Wellbeing To Our Lives

As the foggy mornings fade away we finally bid adieu to the winters and welcome spring which many of us would say is the best time of the year for many reasons.

But the reason which tops my list and undoubtedly many others is the flora. Spring is the season when many beautiful and colourful flowers are in full bloom and so is the case in our sector 61. Be it gardens, terraces or balconies wherever we see, we find lively and cheerful flowers adding to the beauty of houses. On your morning walks, just take some time out to look around and you will see loads of these seasonal flowers around you.

When many of us see gardens like the Amrit Udyan, filled with beautiful flowers, we think that growing them is cumbersome, expensive and a difficult process requiring a lot of skills and knowledge, but this is not the case in-fact it is just the opposite. Most of these flowers don’t cost much and require very little effort and knowledge to be grown. Common flowers that are grown in this season are Petunia, Calendula, Ice-plant, Gazania, Dahlia etc. which are easily available at all local nurseries. Most of these plants cost as low as a rupee per plant for the baby plant whereas potted ones with flowers can go up to rupees fifty per plant for the local varieties and the cost goes up slightly for the more exotic varieties. But it is advisable to grow them by oneself as no particular expertise is required. The best time to grow these plants is around November and they start flowering from January and will spill colours into your lives. The only thing required by these plants to grow and flower is ample sunlight and regular watering. Given the right conditions these plants can give flowers for up-to three months till April and each plant can bear many flowers.

The most interesting part of these winter flowers is that apart from being a treat to the eyes, they also possess many health benefits. The Pansy flower is a rich source of antioxidants, Chamomile flowers can be brewed with tea to help in relaxation, Calendulas have anti-inflammatory properties and Chrysanthemums are a powerhouse of Vitamin B and also are good for your heart health. We are already in March but there is still some tile left, so go out there and get yourself some of these winter flower plants and see their magic.
