An innocent and simple-looking young girl comes knocking on your door for work with her mother and the resident kept her to work for household help throughout the day. Who can even think that this girl in the next few days would be stealing things and turn up a threat?
Yes, this is what came to light when Kamal, M9 resident shared her experience with a girl named Priya from Nathupur who had come to their house with her mother Dolly seeking work. The resident employed the girl as a house help. In 15 days, she noticed some expensive home decorative items missing but she thought maybe they had been misplaced around the house. One day Kamal found that about Rs. 7000 kept in her handbag went missing suddenly. When the girl Priya was asked, she outrightly denied stealing the money. As no one else had entered or left the house in the last few hours, they had full suspicion on the girl. So she was asked not to leave for the day till the money was found. A short while later the girl asked the lady of the house to check the purse again and the money was kept back. The girl claimed she got it back through black magic (haha). The purse had been thoroughly checked before by the family members. They just fired the girl to avoid any further mishap and did not involve any police action.
When this incident was shared on the residents’ WhatsApp group, two more M block residents came out with their similar experiences with this same girl. An M4 resident shared that small things went missing randomly during her work tenure of 15 days last July and when asked the girl denied it. But the day cash went missing from her purse, she fired her immediately.
One family on Akashneem Marg had employed this girl in December and lost about INR 4000, keys to their mother’s almirah, and a few beauty products. Again as the thefts were minor with no direct proof of the girl’s involvement, they also just fired the girl and no action was taken.
With repeated incidents of small thefts done by the same girl in close vicinity in our colony, it is imperative that her entry into DLF Phase 2 should be banned and she should be reprimanded by the police personnel too if seen inside the colony.
We request the DLF Security teams to take appropriate actions in this regard.
If you have any similar experience, please share them with us to raise awareness of such incidents.
