The Govt has taken out a new policy, which states that all Gensets, which run on diesel need to be converted to Dual fuel, which is Diesel + Gas and after 1st Jan 2024 any genset not following this norm will be fined and use of such gensets will not be allowed.
Residents feel that is a very unfair policy as most of the genset are not even 12yr old and because of less power cuts are rarely used leaving them brand new.
The conversion cost is ranges from 5 to 5.7 lakhs depending on Genset KVA also the security for Gas connection with pipes and fitting is 3 lakhs extra. That means the total cost is approx 9 lakhs proving to be too expensive for most of us.
Same way if u go for a new genset after exchange of your old genset which only sells for 2.5 lakhs you have to shell out the same amount of 9 lakhs.
Using a generator with a Gas pipeline becomes a safety hazard specially for the ones placed in the stilt or basement.
In case of gas leak, it can blow up the whole house. I think the pollution control board and the govt should reconsider the decision or give subsidy on installation of cheaper kits.
