Need of the Hour A Senior Citizens Recreation Center in S Block

Need of the Hour

S block came into existence almost 63 years back, when the first few houses including S2, S 61, S 127, S 139, S 153 came up in the early 1961-62. We, must salute those brave hearts, who were the pioneers & had the courage to build their houses at that time.

However, in spite of the fact that DLF, which developed the well laid colony and allocated land for a club & sr. citizens center, Mandir etc., the authorities did not do anything concrete to give these facilities to the residents of this tiny colony.

A club under the name, “South Delhi Club” which had become a center for recreation, closed down due to some court cases, way back in late nineties.

Anyway, the current S Block managing committee is perusing the matter with the Ministers Atishi Marlena & Saurabh Bhardwaj for the past few months to take up this project from the funds of Urban development ministry.

The 1st requirement is of land. SBWS has pointed out that the one tubewell, which was dug out almost forty years back, near S 183, has completely dried out. A new tube well, to augment the supply has already been made operational near S380.

This pump house is occupying a plot size of 42feetX 42 feet (Almost two hundred sq yards). It is in an absolutely dilapidated condition & is turning out to be a garbage dump. It is an absolutely pathetic state & gives an ugly look.

We have sent E Mails, whats app messages & lot of pictures to both the ministers.

It has been requested that DJB can hand over the land to MCD & a building is created out of the funds of Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj’s ministry or we can rope in Meenakshi Lekhi for allocating funds from MP LAD funds.

Nothing in writing has come so far from the ministers but a verbal assurance has been given.

It is pertinent to note that many neighborhood colonies like, GK2, Amar Colony, E.O.K, Panchshhel, Sarva Priya etc. have either got sr. citizens centers or clubs, where residents spend their evenings and enjoy.

We as SBWS are continuing our efforts & hope that our efforts will bear fruits.
