Our society is a peaceful dwelling for most of us. During the initial years, we have all endured the hammering, scraping, drilling, painting and assorted noises as more residents moved in. But never did we imagine we would be subjected to these sounds for months at a stretch now!
In an old complex, we understand, there is some sprucing-up to be done but there Has to be a limit to renovations! Not sticking to allotted timings for such work and turning a blind eye to neighbours’ plight, despite children preparing for Board examinations, are just some of the nuisances we have to bear!
A perturbed resident adds rightly “A time limit has to be set! If someone has that kind of time to do renovation, the right choice is to live in an independent house, not in a community!” An elderly resident, distressed with the constant hammering at odd hours comments, “It is months of suffering blows. Are they making Taj Mahal?”
Another resident complains, “Work starts at 11 AM. At 3:49 PM, they are still doing it. There’s no time to take rest!” A livid resident says, “I have an old mother-in-law who is a heart patient, weak and very frail. This hammering is impacting her health!”
College and school kids preparing for exams are also not spared!
Apart from the horrendous noise pollution, these heavy-duty activities also cause structural damage to adjoining apartments. We sincerely urge the AOA to consider including these rules in their guidelines for future buyers/ tenants planning to renovate/ remodel their apartments –
1. New residents must share the quantum of civil work to be done, with deadlines.
2. There should be a sanctioned time limit of 90-100 days for such work.
3. This information should be shared with the tower neighbours and an NOC sought from the immediate neighbours.
4. The duration of work per day must be adhered to or they should be penalized financially or by disallowing entry into the premises.
5. A Facility representative should monitor the work every fortnight and give a structural clearance in writing to ensure that a ‘Gurgaon type mishap’ does not occur here!
Each of us wants to live peacefully and harmoniously in our wonderful society. Let’s ensure as a family we are considerate toward our neighbours and not turn into the infamous Thak Thak gang!
