The ‘Goonj’ call to spread warmth and kindness for the community on Saturday, 20 January at the Commercial market area thawed many hearts this winter.
A remarkable collection camp was organised by Yashasvini Verma (6152), a dedicated volunteer with the well-known NGO Goonj.
Yashasvini and her family of volunteers collected almost 1000 kgs of material from over 60 residents, monetary contributions and sale of ‘Green by Goonj’ products. Residents generously contributed assorted items, including woollens, newspapers, utensils, toys, books, stationery, shoes, and even a wheelchair and TV.
The Goonj team has lauded this effort, a proud moment for the volunteers.
Yashasvini shared her experience of organising her first collection camp, expressing her gratitude for the overwhelming response from Hamletians. Encouraged by the overwhelming support, she and her team are keen to organise these drives twice annually, with the next one preferably before Diwali (when people are in a giving and cleaning spree mode).
The Goonj team, too, has expressed their sincere thanks to our BOM for providing them with this opportunity and look forward to more contributions from the community.
Goonj undertakes disaster relief, humanitarian aid and community development in various states across India. It focuses on clothing as a basic but unaddressed need; their mission is to promote fairness and respect between urban and rural areas by repurposing unused resources for dignified development.
