January, the month of celebration, ended with an unforeseen incident in Mahagun Maple. A fire broke out in one of the flats due to bursting of a blower heater. Thanks to the alert and selfless help of a few Maplites, the fire could be brought under control and a disaster averted. With the grace of God no one was hurt. But it was truly a wake-up call. It exposed gaps in society’s fire safety processes. The RWA immediately swung into action and on 29 January a fire drill and training session was organized for the security guards as well as volunteers from the residents. Two more such sessions are envisaged in the near future, to ensure they are adequately equipped for, God forbid, any such eventuality in the future.
