The Pran Pratishta on 22nd January in Ayodhya was literally a homecoming of Ram Lalla, back from his second exile; this one, just longer. The day was a culmination of years of undying faith, relentless efforts and fervent prayers of millions of Indians, along with blood, sweat and tears; same colour albeit from different faiths, before the dispute could be settled.
The day, was celebrated in a big way in Gurgaon, just as in the rest of India. Homes, societies, workplaces, schools, and markets were lit up with diyas, to mark the homecoming. Devotees thronged their local temples, government offices were closed half day and overall the ruling party managed to make this into a national level mega event. Their timing and narrative in sync with the elections due this year. The celebrities and politicians were divided into the have invites and have nots and in case you did, it was almost irreverent to not be there.
Kudos to the BJP for turning this event into a thinly veiled election promotion and the astute ones in the opposition, joined the bhakti wave, to reap whatever benefits might accrue, while others chipped away from the block.
A Bhajan elders have sung comes to my mind to sum up the event:
Ram Naam ki loot hai loot sake toe loot
Ant me pachtayega jab praan (Train) jayenge choot!
