Through the years NFC RWA (Ashoka Park) has been celebrating the festival of ‘Lohri” with pomp and show by making and igniting a pyre of cow dung uplas/ cakes in keeping up with their vision of a ‘green environment’. However, keeping in mind the consideration and attempt of all to keep the environment cleanest and not add to the smog and pollution already existing, the RWA like last year (2023) decided to not lite the green bonfire and instead celebrate the festival of ‘Lohri’ by distributing ‘BLANKETS’, Rewri, Peanuts and Gajjak to the labourers working at construction sites in the colony to help them keep warm.
The best part of it all was the fact that the blankets were purchased from finances raised by children from the colony from their play stalls at the ‘Diwali Mela in November 2023. To add to the finances, some residents and members of the management committee of the RWA also came forward and contributed. Residents were invited to participate and encourage children and join in the mission of providing warmth to the poor coz’ while many enjoy the season with home comforts, for the less fortunate, dropping temperatures mean a daily struggle on the cold streets.
The NFC RWA’s and the children’s blanket donation thought to celebrate ‘Lohri’ is a testament of their commitment of providing some warmth, joy and a smile, to those on the streets of the colony. The gift of a warm blanket during winter is significant, preventing discomfort and severe illnesses for many. This year, early winter onset and rising air pollution levels make them more vulnerable, creating an opportunity for us to extend warmth and care. The journey was possible…. thanks to the generous donors, which included children and some residents. Together, we’ve provided more than 200 warm blankets to those in need.
