AIKGA held a seminar on 2nd December. However the attendance was very low. Only six members attended. It was on new methods we will have to use for home gardening with so much pollution blocking sunlight. The points that the seminar brought forth are as under:
Excessive rain at different times has also made gardening difficult. Lot of research is being done on all these greenhouse gasses everywhere. The result is that everything can not be grown everywhere..
We should grow different crops in different areas where the conditions are favorable to that crop. Places having excessive water can grow makhana.
In small gardens make ridges and grow some greens for your own use. Some things you can grow by using a vertical gardening method. Use organic manure in beds. Mulch it with dry leaves, wood shavings, coal and ashes. This will constantly keep improving your soil. And encourage pollinators to come in your garden.
There are three or four sides in your garden open for light and sun. Every house will have to choose what you can grow. Rooftop gardeners can grow lot more things. Make raised beds with a proper drainage system. You can also use window boxes and ledges to grow greens and improve air in your house.
Some basic knowledge is important to start gardening. Please do a basic garden course so that you know your soil and how to improve it. Happy Gardening!
