I am a great lover of watching matches but lately, the results gave us unstoppable tears, heart-throbbing pain, and sleepless nights, and we were feeling helpless not knowing how to console our dukhi dils.
Cricket is no doubt every Indian household’s passion. It entered our lives through back doors, brought by the Britishers as their summer sport. Cricket is a game of teamwork, good leadership, coordination, strong mentorship, keeping patience and cool, rising to the occasion as per situational demand with patience, self-esteem and above all, keeping team spirit during the entire game.
In fact, it is the most watched sport all over the world and the cricket fever grips an entire nation. Everyone wants their Team to win and we Indians are no exception. Even though I had decided earlier not to fall into the trap of watching, I could not resist watching the World Cup 2023 matches when India started winning matches one after the other, from day one. It gripped me slowly, first by just the news, then watching on YouTube and then on the big screen. When did the fever actually grip me, I am not sure but then there was no way out but to see the end result with the burning desire to see India bring home the World Cup.
The big day for the match finally arrived- India v/s Australia. We made vast arrangements for the final celebration, quite sure that India would win. The match was a thriller initially with runs pouring from all sides and then the doom started from the tenth over when Rohit Sharma fell to a superb catch and we saw the wicket of Kohli down with the ball hitting his stump. We all were praying and hoping for a miracle to happen during the Australian batting but we lost the match. Leaving aside the celebrations, we could not even eat or sleep thereafter.
The blame game started but then, it is not the end of cricket for us. We should learn from it. We have come a long way in this sport, our Virat Kohli got the Man of the tournament Award, Shami was the highest wicket-taker, and Rohit Sharma was the highest six-hitter. We have built an image – a brand and now we should give our best in the T20 matches coming up shortly. India’s name tops the list among the strong teams in cricket across the world and we should be proud about that.
