Misuse of Stilt Parking
Recently, we have seen a massive increase in people opting to stay in multi-story apartments (flats). Builders in Gurgaon are buying single-story independent homes and building multistory flats. The reasons could be many: more financial benefits and low construction costs.
On such buildings is the compulsory stilt car facility. This is mostly semi-open space reserved on the ground floor of buildings. As per law, a stilt parking space cannot be used for any other commercial or personal purposes besides the parking of cars.
Recently, it was noticed that in a few buildings, stilt parking was being misused, either by creating servant quarters or for other commercial purposes. Cars were being parked outside, improperly blocking most space on roads and reducing road size. Other vehicles passing by these roads were nearly hitting each other.
Looking at this nuisance, some residents reported it to the Town Planners (DTCP), resulting in the sealing of these buildings for violating building norms. Show cause notices were issued to offenders. RWA Team A Block Extension has reminded residents not to misuse parking space and not block road space by parking so many cars. I will keep reminding residents so they all use designated parking spaces and not crowd the roads.
