Some Stray Dogs Killed a Pea Hen
On the morning of 4 Dec, security guards of our block informed me that some stray dogs had killed a pea hen in front of the park, near S 309, during the early hours.
Being a sensitive issue, involving our national bird, I informed, MCD SI, Ashok Kumar to remove the dead bird. However, he raised two issues. Police has also to be informed and a national flag be procured for wrapping the dead bird. A suitable clean space earmarked for the burial.
As RWA head, I informed all our beat officers and requested them that at least one officer should be present. SI Sunder Lal was assigned to do the rituals.
A team comprising of MCD officials, ASI Sunder Lal, RWA reps of SBWS and staff of SBWS including guards formed a team. Flag and man power was provided by RWA.
The dead bird was picked up properly, wrapped in the National flag and given a burial in the S Block ECO Park. Garlands were put around the burial spot.
National anthem was sung. Flag was carefully removed before the burial. It was an experience for all of us.
Big question- How to control the menace of strays that have been attacking kids, Sr citizens and now a national bird.??? When will some strict rules be made to control this menace, which is increasing day by day?
