Sector 50 A-E

Why Residents ‘Give Up’ on Issues of Concern

Sector-50 is home to people from all walks of life. The elite and educated residents are concerned and care about the well-being of the sector – be it cleanliness, environment protection, public health or prevention of nuisance. Whenever required, the concern people residing in the sector also come forward and take a lead to point out deficiencies in service by authorised person(s)/agencies and get the needful done. They also try to prevent wrongdoing and make others also aware of the things not in order.

Initially some like-minded neighbours may support them and come forward to join hands. But after sometimes the number keeps diminishing and towards the end the person who takes initiative is left alone to pursue the matter. Subsequently, finding ‘NO SUPPORT’ from others, they simply ‘GIVE UP’. Hence good initiative does not sustain for long and the entire effort becomes futile. This type of scenario obviously demoralizes others too to not come forward for a good cause.

This is the hard fact that ‘Samvada Team’ has realized and concluded by closely watching the sector issues and talking to the residents.

The other major issue/hindrance to improve the quality of life for good living in a civil society is the vested interest of the individual owners of premises. For example, the residents keeping pet dogs will not come forward to support and execute any measures to prevent dog poops on roadside. Similarly, the owner of any premise(s) running/doing unauthorized activity/business in his/her premise will avoid any tussle with RWA, Noida Authority or neighbours for fear of his/her exposure affecting his/her source of income.

It may be seen that many a time the cleanliness drive or ‘No’ to single use plastic drives have been organized. But after some time, everything comes back as usual due to lack of support for continuation of such drive.

The primary task of RWA is to look after the welfare of the residents. But RWA, as on date, does not have any mechanism for taking complaint/feedback and suggestions from the residents on a common platform such as WhatsApp, website, etc. The only WhatsApp group operated by RWA office-bearers is one-way communication to inform residents about task being carried out by RWA or other Authority. By doing so RWA pretends to show the feel-good factor of residents. Is this sufficient for the welfare of the residents? The answer is NO, not in true sense.

Office-bearers of RWA and the residents need to be proactive and interactive for an amicable system and solution in the interest of the sector.

Belongingness to the sector needs to be nurtured as a large family.
