Kartik month, also known as Damodar month – the 8th lunar month of Hindu calendar and 4th month of Chaturmaas – is considered the Holiest Vedic month of the year. The November festivities in The Crescent started on 01 November with Karwa Chauth, where married women observe fast for the long life of their husbands. Crescent women gathered at the central park in best of the traditional attires and solah-shingars for the puja ceremony. The long wait for moon sighting was culminated at society terraces, accompanied by traditional rituals. The moon looked like smiling naughtily with tilted head, saying “Here I come!”
The Crescent Diwali Carnival on 04 November evening was full of fun and frolic. The theme was Dandiya/ Garba Evening. The management committee of Crescent was kind enough to call MM group for cultural programme, which came with their Dandiya/ Garba Troupe, DJ, Anchor entertainment, quizes and surprise prizes. This musical event was organized by the Crescent Cultural Committee of Renu Bajpai, Rita Gupta, Shruti Arora and Vanita Raina. Apart from group folk dances on stage, the troupe engaged the residents, teaching them traditional Garba steps and danced alongside. The aura was completely of divinity and celebration. There were also games for children and adults, snacks during the event, game stalls and finally dinner for all residents.
The festival of Diwali is celebrated in five consecutive days – Dhanteras/Dhantrayodashi, Narak Chaudasi, Diwali Lakshmi Pooja, Govardhan Pooja and Bhai Dooj, all which were celebrated with traditional fervour. Diwali was full of vibrant lighting and colours on Sunday, 12 November. Diyas and electrical lights brought radiance all around the society on the moonless night. The residents gathered at Central Park and enjoyed fireworks, sharing greetings and flying paper lanterns together.
The other festivals of Kartik month – Ahoi Ashthami, Chattah Pooja, Devuthana Ekadashi, Tulsi Vivah, Dev Diwali and the culmination of month with Kartik Poornima were all celebrated as per individual rituals and traditions by the residents.
