The “Overseas Parivar” continue the tradition of celebrating all the festivals with fun and gaiety; this time also, they came together to celebrate Diwali Milan and Food Festival on the eve of Diwali. The Public Sector Employees Cooperative Housing Society – Overseas Apartments – organized a fun-filled “Diwali-Milan 2023” in the central park of the society to let people celebrate the joyous festival in the best of spirits, with colourful rangolis and festive lights.
“Diwali Milan” started with the traditional lighting of lamp by the society president, Prabhat Kumar Tripathy, thus creating a warm and welcoming ambience throughout society. There were interesting and innovative games stalls for the children and the residents tried their luck and won prizes. The ladies of the society put up food stalls as part of Food Festival which served a variety of sumptuous food items including sandwiches, dahi-ke-sholay, kulhad pizza, delicious kheer, masala tea, etc.
This year’s attraction was “Passing-the-parcel” which was enjoyed by all; the main attraction of the evening was the Garba-dandia, music chairs and other fun-filled games. Participants took photographs in specially designed photo-booth. The rangoli competition added flavour to the event which saw participations from different age groups that designed creative, colourful and beautiful rangolis.
There were jhullas and bouncy for the children and to keep them involved. The organizers had small games, quizzes, puzzles, one-liners with Bollywood as the theme and prizes were given to the winners. There were exclusive games for couples, boys and girls; young and old all enjoyed the beats of Bollywood songs by dancing to the hits.
The festive occasion was marked in a unique way with the residents setting a trend of safe, less noisy and pollution-free Diwali by lighting sky-lanterns. The view of lanterns going up in the sky gave a magical experience for all present. The residents showcased their expertise in Newspaper Throwing (Aim High) and prizes were given to winners of Musical Chairs. The last but not the least was “Tambola – a game of chance” enjoyed by one and all, as the game brought together people of all ages, fostering a sense of community and friendly competition.
The carnival atmosphere ended with Lucky Draws. Mr Tripathy thanked all the residents for participating with full vigour and passion to make the event a great success.
