The month of October is a celebration of Good conquering Evil, and Light vanquishing the Darkness. Books for All (BFA), a volunteer-led initiative by residents of Sector 93A (Noida), is also working towards spreading the light of knowledge among village children of India who are devoid of the joy of books.
Due to lack of space and infrastructure in most schools situated in urban and rural villages, the children studying in these schools have no access to good quality books other than their course books. This has an adverse impact on their learning outcomes. Hanging libraries addresses this lacuna. The colourfully illustrated books attract students to read and aid learning and understanding, encourage them to write, draw and dream!
Each Hanging Library has over 100 books on engaging themes, written in simple language of the region along with colourful pictures. Bi-lingual books are also made available as per the need. These books encourage students of all strata to develop a habit of reading and increase their vocabulary, knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live and instil good values as well. The unique feature of Hanging Library is that it does not need any space or dedicated infrastructure, as it can be easily hung on walls.
As of September 2022, with the help of our numerous supporters we were able to install 61 Hanging Libraries in 11 states of India. Our target is to spread this joy of books to as many village schools as we can, across India.
