B-3 Vasant Kunj for the first time organized an awareness lecture by Master Yohan Yadav on the topic, “Science of Upkeep of Parks” for the Malis/Gardeners in the morning on 20 Oct at Gazebo Park, Sec B, Pkt 3, Vasant Kunj.
Master Yohan Yadav is a budding self-taught environmentalist, aged 9 years, resident of Flat no. 3240, B3 Vasant Kunj, sensitized the Malis of the value of their work which is not merely tending to the parks but that they should be conscious of the fact that they are ‘catalytic agent’ in creating parks into an oasis of nature as their good work unwittingly provides various kinds of source of survival for birds and insects, their crucial role in pollination and habitats for organisms that are critical to enrichment of the soil. In a 20 minute session, Master Yohan dealt on issues relating to good practices of park management such as preference for organic manure by building a small compost centre and frequent tilling/gudaee for the fertility of soil, rationalizing water in irrigation of the parks, consistent removal of weeds, importance of flora, maintain well-manicured grass and pruning of trees for better exposure of greens to sunlight, prevention management of Aphids, necessity to develop well grown shrubs that provides resting/living space for small birds, ensure planting of seasonal flowers all through the year that conjure up in creating the parks into healthy environmental space for residents.
