I was thrilled to hear that the cultural committee of Kailash Dham planned to organise Garba during Navratri days, on Saturday, 1st October. After a long gap the festivities have started with fervour.
For the big day a group of women got ready to enthral the audience with their mesmerising Dandiya Raas performance.
Arati Yagnik, a gujrati and a school teacher, taught the whole group beautiful dance steps with utmost vigour. The core group members were Mona, Sudha, Asha, Mamta, Bhawna, Akanksha, Megha, Soni, Ritika, Supriya, Rakhee and they led the whole group with grace and discipline.
The group kept getting bigger and practice became more and more dedicated as well as fun. Anjali, Khyati, Priya, Uma and many more joined the group and practiced on gujurati songs.
I was especially spellbound by some gujrati residents, where men and women showed traditional garba steps which were quite graceful and had a taste of the original Garba Ras of Gujurat.
All in all, the Navratri celebration connected us to our rich culture, heritage and diversity. The residents enjoyed not only all the performances, the food as well connecting with each other but also danced along. I could see all age groups coming out and happily being a part of this day.
I was taken back to my school days where I attended many Dandiya Ras night.
I would like to also thank the KD office staff and Management to make this happen.
