When the smoke took over the skies as soon as November began, all of us knew what was in store for us. Headlines showing the toxic air quality, schools being shut down and the odd even rule which many of us dread!
When I first saw the smoke, I really wanted to believe that it was fog, showing the start of winter but alas, not everything we wish comes true.
Pollution was at its highest this year even crossing the 500 – mark. All residents of Delhi NCR were suggested to stay indoors as going out even for morning walks could be more detrimental than staying in.
The whole of Delhi NCR was effectively shut down and for a good reason. We really could not do anything to avoid this pollution as it is created in Punjab where farmers burn their farms to get ready for the new planting season.
The pollution was extremely bad in Noida too.
But then came the rain! Where human beings failed, divinity had to intervene. A glorious spell of rain washed away the smog & brought the AQI down. We could even see the sky for a couple of days!
However, things have gotten bad again after Diwali. As of now, the only thing we can do is try to be as safe as possible!
